My Role In Production/Editing

Throughout the filming and editing of our opening sequence my group and I made sure we all played equal parts in  the production of our final product so we all played an individial part in the overall development and production of our production. This was essential as we all had different strong points and contribution to display.

Personally after having a group discussion about the ideas for the narrative of our opening scene I worked hard to create a very detailed plan which I used to refer to whilst filming. I played the part of the dead girl in the opening scene, I chose the costume and the make-up for this character and put it all together on the day of filming as I knew this would make the overall product conform to major psychological horror film conventions as the ghostly character is usually always seen to be in ripped or old clothes with a pale skin tone and shown to be bleeding or injured. As I played this character I looked to film other parts of the narrative whenever I could.

I filmed the beginning of the opening scene where the camera tracks up the stairs and then into the bedroom where the main antagonist is shown. Here I tried to display my knowledge with a variety of camera shots and movement. I used tracking to make the audience feel as if they were in the footsteps seeing exactly what the protagonist could when moving up the stairs, this adds a sense of realism. I also used match-on-action here so that the audience aren't bored by the time taken to get up the stairs instead it cuts to the top of the stairs outside of the bedroom. I used a long shot of the antagonist sleeping so that the audience could understand the time and setting of the narrative. Then diegetic sound was added in of object moving and when editing I added in a ken burns effect which zooms out smoothly to a mid-shot of ‘Sally’ to show her shocked and scared reaction to the noises.

Furthermore when editing, myself and my group all took equal parts as we all had knowledge of how to use key features such as blade, cut etc. Personally I did half of the title sequences, I though that that the fonts on final cut pro were suitable to use as we found it very hard to get fonts from font-space onto final cut pro. The first font I chose wasn't seen as appropriate after some feedback from people in the target audience so we decide to change this to a grunge and myself and Georgia(another group member) worked to add in all the necessary titles where appropriate on our clip. I also collaborated and added ideas as myself and my group got together regularly to edit our filming so that everyone was happy with the changes and developments we were making.
