Automatically this film poster catches the attention of the audience who are looking to watch a film of the horror genre this is because it states at the very top 'From the producer of 'Paranormal Activity' and 'Insidious'. These are names of already well-known and famous horror/supernatural films so will gain the views/interests of fans of this producers works.
The colours of the poster are used effectively as the shades of dark grey as the background of a cracked wall are dull and show that the film isn't in any way going to be light-hearted but instead dark and like the title suggests 'Sinister'. These colours contrast with the bright red colour of the blood smear and tactically this draws our eyes to the outline of a man or clown face within the blood this is essential in showing the audience that the film will have lots of dark turns and scary events that will cause a stir of emotions.
The use of the woman on the poster reveals a lot about the film as her costume looks like pyjamas which suggests that the film is a nightmare turned into reality. Female characters are generally used in horror films as they are seen to be vulnerable and weak and therefore subject to the horrors that will arise.
The title of the film further suggests that demonic and supernatural events will happen at some point in the film as the font that 'Sinister' is written in looks old and worn away this connotes that something from the past could be coming back to haunt the character in question.
Overall I think this film poster effectively portrays many horror genre conventions. It would typically appeal to the male and film audience over eighteen who are looked to be entertained.
